Fundraising Job Summary

The DVCanvass Team Leader is responsible for door to door fundraising on behalf of DVCanvass non-profit clients, as well as the direct line management, support, and professional development of DVCanvass canvassers.  DVCanvass Team Leaders are part of the office management, and work to develop teams of 3-6 canvassers to drive the fundraising and grassroots prerogatives of the Senior Coordinator. They work as part of a dynamic team dedicated to building funding and grassroots power for non-profits fighting for a wide variety of worthy causes. DVCanvass canvass offices are inclusive workspaces, with a strong culture of feedback, and a growth mindset, celebrating diversity and nurturing difference. A DVCanvass Team Leader works five shifts weekly.

Responsibilities

All of the standard duties of a full time canvasser:
  • Door to door canvassing on designated turf, as defined by Team Leader or Senior City Coordinator
  • Signing up of monthly donors to donate to accredited charity or non-profit organizations, via Credit/Debit Card, or Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • The daily (five days a week) working of a full door shift (6 hours)
  • The maintenance of integrity standards around not signing up friends and family
  • Punctual and reliable attendance
  • Friendly, positive, professional interactions with the public as an ambassador for both DVCanvass and the contracted non-profit.
  • Accurate representation of non-profit’s program work, mandate, financial information, and membership details
  • Engagement of new prospective donors, past supporters, and current supporters
  • The safe keeping of DVCanvass property (tablets, uniforms), and donor information in line with PCI DSS compliance
  • Attendance of appropriate trainings as needed
  • Inclusive, team oriented, and supportive interactions with other DVCanvass employees
The daily management of a team of 3-6 DVCanvass canvassers
  • Orchestrating and managing team’s schedule, timeliness, attendance, paid time off, rescheduling and commute to and from shift
  • Daily goal setting and pre-shift training
  • Daily check ins and tandem canvassing
  • Daily first week training and staffing
  • Nightly numbers reporting and team debriefs
  • Motivational maintenance
  • Accountability and disciplinary procedure in conjunction with Coordinator team and standards set forth in Personnel Policy Manual
  • Professional development, training, and coaching of team members
  • The mutual support and encouragement of other DVCanvass canvassers
  • Attendance in and engagement with professional development opportunities
  • Maintenance of presentable DVCanvass offices and vehicles
  • Attendance of weekly leadership meaning, morning huddles, and/or nightly debriefs
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  •  Attendance of office socials and motivational events
  • Availability on weekends
  • Driving of team van
  • Other responsibilities as directed by Senior Coordinator

Qualifications

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
 
  • Must be able to assist prospective donors in the accurate completion of the membership form on tablet
  • Must be able to effectively communicate around fundraising language
  • Must be able to navigate daily door to door map
 
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
 
  • Strong communication skills

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
 
  • Persuasive fundraising skills
  • 1 year of management experience
  • 1 year of fundraising or equivalent sales experience
  • 1 year of previous door to door experience
  • Proficiency with Membership Drive
  • Proficiency with a tablet
 
SUCCESS FACTORS
 
Success as a full-time canvasser will be measured primarily by
  • How many sponsors per hour a canvasser can sign up
  • Reliable and timely attendance of shifts
  • Positive impact on the outlook, motivation level, and fundraising output of team
Success as a Team Leader will be measured by
  • Team’s employee turnover and retention
  • Team’s fundraising output
  • Management of team’s schedule
  • Effective conflict resolution and ability to manage disciplinary processes in line with Personnel Policy Manual
  • Team’s professional development

Pay and Benefits

  • $18.50 an hour
  • Approximately 40 hours a week with relevant overtime (when above 40 hours)
  • After each 200 members signed up, canvassers will receive a $.50 raise
  • $12 bonus for every sponsored child
  • Potential to bonus off of team performance
